The next generation Nintendo Wii, the Wii U is pretty awesome! It is similar to the original Nintendo Wii, but it has a much better graphics processor that is capable of outputting games in HD with slightly better power than the 360 or PS3!
A new project appeared on October 13th, 2015 called Cemu–the world’s first somewhat functioning Nintendo Wii U emulator! The first release is version 1.0.0, and it has the ability to boot decrypted games in multipled formats (.wud, .iso, RPX/RPL files). It has support for HD graphics right out of the gate, so that’s nice. The compatibility is pretty low right now (I’m working on a compatibility list below the download link on this page). There’s also no audio support right now, it only works on Windows 64-bit operating systems, and the FPS on games that do work is very low for the most part. That’s all to be expected with a first release though.
The creator of Cemu, Exzp, plans on optimizing (he says it has not been optimized at all yet) the emulator to make it work better in the coming weeks/months, so stay tuned.
Original breaking release: GBATEMP
Glitchy sound, low compatibility, limited FPS, 64-bit OS only
My compatibility list (i.e. games that I have personally tested):
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker (EUR) — Tries to load game for 10-15 seconds then crashes Cemu
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze — Very very slow, glitchy menus, in-game is black screen
DuckTales Remastered (USA) — Cemu status stuck on loading… (black screen, waited 15 minutes)
Hyrule Warriors (EUR) — Immediately crashes Cemu upon booting
Mario Kart 8 (USA) — Boots to splash screen but crashes after about one minute (see video)
NES Remix Pack (USA) — Menus and controls work, but gameplay has missing textures (see video)
New Super Mario Bros. U (USA) — Brings up controller screen then Cemu crashes soon after (see video)
Pikmin 3 (EUR) — 175-200 FPS but only a black screen (crashes Cemu after 1 minute)
Splatoon (EUR) — Menus and in-game “work” but have lots of missing textures (see video)
Super Mario 3D World (USA) — Loads controller screen, then black screen, then crashes (see video)
Super Mario Maker (EUR) — Immediately crashes Cemu upon booting
The Croods: Prehistoric Party (EUR) — Immediately crashes Cemu upon booting
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (USA) — Intros + menus work, controls do not (see video)
Transformers Prime (EUR) — Immediately crashes Cemu upon booting
Turbo Super Stunt Squad (EUR) — Black screen, FPS stays at 0.00 (waited about 5 minutes)
