A new project appeared on October 13th, 2015 called Cemu–the world’s first somewhat functioning Nintendo Wii U emulator! The first release by Exzap over at GBATEMP is version 1.0.0, and it has the ability to boot decrypted games in multiple formats (.wud, .iso, RPX/RPL files). It has support for HD graphics right out of the gate, so that’s nice. The compatibility is pretty low right now (I’m working on a compatibility list below the download link on this page). There’s also no audio support right now, it only works on Windows 64-bit operating systems, and the FPS on games that do work is very low for the most part. That’s all to be expected with a first release though.

The creator of Cemu, Exzap, plans on optimizing (he says it has not been optimized at all yet) the emulator to make it work better in the coming weeks/months, so stay tuned.

My compatibility list:

Cemu 1.2.0

Games I Have Tested on Cemu 1.2.0:

Ben 10 Omniverse- Gfx are less glitchy than 1.1.2b, no audio, and still crashes Cemu when trying to enter gameplay
Ben 10 Omniverse 2 – No sound, makes it through menus well but crashes Cemu when trying to enter gameplay
Captain Toad Treasure Tracker – Crashes Cemu upon booting
Darksiders II – Audio now working, framebuffer 15 & 17 = best options (still lots of graphical bugs/glitches)
Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze – No audio, takes a long time to boot to the menu then trying to enter gameplay = stuck at black screen
DuckTales Remastered – Never makes it past the initial black screen “loading…” phase
Fast and Furious Showdown – Garbled graphics during menus–cannot seem to get past them
Game & Wario – Crashes immediately upon launching
How to Train Your Dragon 2 – Crashes immediately upon launching
Hyrule Warriors – Crashes immediately upon launching
Mario Kart 8 – Works faster than 1.1.2b, and audio works pretty well!
Mario Party 10 – Attempts to get past the “loading…” phase for about a minute before eventually crashing Cemu
Marvel Avengers Battle for Earth – Boots to spinning logo screen for about 30 secs then crashes Cemu
NES Remix Pack – Same as before, but now with audio (in-game seems to work but is stuck on ~3.15 FPS)
Nintendo Land – Audio works, text is on backbuffer, graphics on framebuffer 0
New Super Luigi U – Audio works, game runs about 30 FPS
New Super Mario Bros. U – Speed/Gfx looks to be the same (runs about 30 FPS), but now with audio (still have to apply the workaround)
Pikmin 3 – Kinda working, lots of missing textures (worth doing a vid though) USE FB 17
Shovel Knight – Audio works, gameplay = full speed and looks great
Splatoon- Audio works, cannot get past tutorial unless you use an external save
Super Mario 3D World – Boots splash screen, then controller screen, then black screen, then crashes
Super Mario Maker – Got part of the tutorial working (enemies load, but not blocks and some other objects)–audio also works
Super Smash Bros. U – Boots to black screen with 10 framebuffers (tested them all–they are all black screens)
The Croods – Prehistoric Party – Crashes immediately upon launching
The Legend of Zelda – Wind Waker – Same as before (but now with audio) — Cannot get past controller screen
The Wonderful 101 – Boots to black screen (FPS counter showing 475+ FPS), but never gets past the black screen… framebuffers 0-4 all the same black screen
Transformers Prime – Crashes immediately upon launching
Turbo Super Stunt Squad – Black screen at 0.00 FPS (no framebuffers)
Wii Sports Club – Crashes immediately upon launching
Yoshi’s Woolly World – Black sceen, but framebuffer 0 has bouncing Yoshi’s / splash screen (cannot get past)… after about 1 minute it turns to black screen as well
ZombiU – Crashes immediately upon launching

Confirmed Tested on 1.2.0 By Others (via GBATemp):

Angry Birds: Star Wars – No changes – Boots, then gets stuck on an infinite black screen
Bayonetta 1 – No changes – Crash on load
Deus Ex: Human Revolution – No changes – See one of my previous posts on info on Deus Ex, which gets in-game. From 3 to 4 fps in-game
Injustice Gods Among Us – No changes – Infinite stuck on loading.
Kirby and the Rainbow Curse – No changes – Crash on selecting game-mode
Lego Marvel Super Heroes – Minor changes – Now shows more loading screen stuff, though all is still broken.
Mario & Sonic Olympic Sochi 2014 – No changes – Infinite loading
Mass Effect 3 – No changes – Crash on load
Monster Hunter 3 – No changes – Boots, but gets stuck on an infinite black screen
Sonic All Stars Racing – No changes – Stuck on loading
Wii Party U – No changes – Crash on Load
Xenoblade Chronicles X – Changes – Configure the D-pad to navigate through the menu’s, plays the cutscene after Character Creation. In-game cutscene is so broken there’s no point in continuing. Backbuffer has subs. Framebuffer 28 shows an image. It’s even worse than Deus Ex. At some point you ave to enter your name with the gamepad. I don’t think you can progress further.
